Taking a Step Back from Mercury in Retrograde
Mercury in retrograde gets a bad rap and causes many people to retreat into their homes, barricading the doors and windows for a couple of weeks.
Mercury is associated with communication, intellect, reasoning, and expression, and it is believed by many that when Mercury is in retrograde, these things are negatively affected and could cause issues in our relationships and business ventures.
One of my spiritual teachers once said, “life can’t stop because Mercury is in retrograde”. More recently I have also been thinking, is it possible that, via the law of attraction, we manifest the huge communication, and physical and emotional upheavals we are told to expect during Mercury in retrograde?
Who can I blame when I fumble my words when Mercury is not in retrograde?
During Mercury in retrograde, the planet does not shift direction as the name suggests, it is merely slowing down, so it looks like it is going backwards to us earthlings.
What if, Mercury in retrograde is also a time for us to slow down and be more mindful when we make decisions, when we have discussions, to dig a little deeper into our who, what, why, how?
In my youth, while working in retail administration on Oxford Street, I was asked or coerced into doing a stock take once the store had closed one evening. For reasons that, to this day, baffle me, the stock take took all night. The manager gave our small team cash to get a cab home. I emerged onto an eerily quiet Oxford Street, with the sun peeking over the buildings.
I managed to raise my tired arm to hail a black cab. The driver pulled over. I told him where I wanted to go and I slumped into the seat ready to be whisked off to my warm, comfortable bed. Before I could properly settle in, I saw the cab driver hesitate. Then he turned around to me and said, “You’ll need to pay up front.” I beg your pardon?!
